The old sailmakers used to say that the real model starts with a wingspan of two and a half meters or 100 inches... With the Cumul 100, you can see that they were absolutely right.
The two-meter thermal glider is one of the most rewarding aircraft models for model builders—nothing compares to peaceful relaxation flying under mild conditions, circling in thermals under clouds, and enjoying quiet evening flights where you can lean back and watch your elegant model fly almost on its own... But the CUMUL 100 can do so much more—thanks to the wing with ailerons and flaps, you can set up the model with great fun and fully utilize the capabilities of your RC computer set. Flight modes to increase speed while searching for thermals or to increase lift when circling, a stunningly effective butterfly brake for landing in tight spaces—these are just a few ways to truly enjoy flying with the Cumul 100. And if you have a competitive spirit, the CUMUL 100 meets the rules of the international FAI F5J category or the national classes RCEP/RCEN/RCEV.
The CUMUL 100 model was developed in the Czech Republic and is produced there.
The kit for this high-performance thermal glider features a classic, very lightweight all-balsa construction, which you can easily convert to electric propulsion with a KAVAN C2836/AXI 2217 class brushless motor. The CUMUL 100 is the ideal project for model builders who want to build a truly capable model for leisure and competition flights. Thanks to the excellent construction with CNC-cut parts equipped with notches and cutouts that fit together like puzzle pieces, assembly is very quick and straightforward. With the Cumul 100, you can compete in the F5J category or various "Enduro" classes. The kit includes fuselage parts for both a glider and an electric model. The build is quick and not too labor-intensive—the CUMUL 100 is still a relatively simple model, but it is not suitable for beginners.
The front part of the fuselage consists of a laminated gondola with a removable cover for perfect access to the aileron and elevator servos, which are housed in a plywood bed, along with the receiver, motor, controller, and drive battery. To easily modify the gondola for electric motor installation, the kit includes a plywood device for trimming the nose of the fuselage. The tail unit of the fuselage consists of a carbon tube support with a glued pylon and a core made of lightweight plywood reinforced with balsa to secure the elevator support. The kit also includes an adjustable high-start hook.
The three-part wing with the AG 40-42 profile has a classic design with balsa ribs and a solid skin of the D-box. The main spar consists of spruce strip laminations with a balsa construction, ensuring high strength of the structure at a very low weight. The wingtips with elegant winglets are attached to the center section with carbon connectors and dural boundary pins. The flaps and ailerons are independently controlled by four servos with short pushrods. The wing is attached to the fuselage with two plastic screws.
The horizontal tailplane is made of CNC-cut balsa parts. For easy transport, the horizontal stabilizer is removable and secured with two plastic screws. The control surfaces are actuated using pushrods.
You can cover this model with a covering film—e.g., with KAVAN transparent film or Oracover® for hobby flying. If you are building a competition model, use a lightweight film such as Oralight® or similar materials.
To control the model, you will need at least a 7-channel RC set. For hobby flying, good 15-20 g micro servos with metal gears and a torque of at least 2.5 kg.cm are sufficient. For sport and competition flights, you should install strong and fast micro servos, such as KAVAN GO-1023MG for ailerons and flaps and KAVAN GO-1020MG/GO-1021MG for the rudder and elevator (the beds included in the kit are "tailored" for these servos).
For powering the onboard electronics of a competition glider, a two-cell LiPo pack of 800-1000 mAh is ideal.
For the electric version, you will need a 300-450 W brushless motor with a diameter of 28 mm. Our prototypes fly with KAVAN C2836-1120 and KAVAN PRO 2836-1050 motors with a 10x6" propeller, a 32 mm propeller spinner, and KAVAN R-40SB Plus or KAVAN PRO-40SB controllers powered by 3S LiPo batteries (11.1 V, 750-850 mAh) with a minimum discharge rate of 30C for hobby flying and 40C for competition flights.
