Highly transparent hardener with extended pot life for coatings, potting and thick-walled laminates.
- Very low viscosity (± 300 m.Pas)
- Fast impregnation of glass, aramid and carbon fibers
- Also suitable for casting (up to 2 cm layer thickness in one operation)
- High transparency
- Largely resistant to light and color tones
- Tack-free curing of even the thinnest layers (curing from +15 °C)
- Heat resistance approx. 65 °C
- Very good impact strength
Epoxy resin L with hardener W 300 is a frequently used laminating, coating and casting resin system from the R&G product range. Due to its low surface tension, good adhesion and low curing shrinkage, it is also very suitable for bonding wood, metal and PS rigid foams such as Styropor®. It can be processed by all common methods such as hand lay-up, pressure and vacuum impregnation as well as pressing and winding.
Mixing ratio:
100 : 35 parts by weight resin : hardener.
- Processing time (135 g / 20 °C): approx. 300 minutes
- Curing time: approx. 24-72 hours (depending on volume, layer thickness and temperature).
- If the system is processed in thin layers / laminates, the curing temperature should not be below 22 °C.
Application areas:
Coatings of all kinds, aquaristics, terraristics, jewelry, arts and crafts, painting, wood finishing, furniture making (rivertable), diaramas, aircraft, ship, car and railroad model making.
Processing:
For best results, resin and hardener should be proportioned by weight.
(Mixing ratio by weight is not the same as mixing ratio by volume, due to different specific weights of resin and hardener).
After mixing the resin and hardener, the casting resin must be poured as quickly as possible to avoid an exothermic reaction in the mixing vessel. This applies in particular when large quantities are processed.
The heat of reaction (exotherm) generated during curing limits the maximum quantity to be cast in one operation and the layer thickness.
The higher the temperature and/or the layer thickness and/or the volume, the shorter the processing/gelling time.
If a certain limit is exceeded, the resin system heats up exponentially until undesirable reactions finally occur:
The casting discolors completely or in places, from light yellow to dark brown, cracks appear and increased shrinkage occurs. Furthermore, an uneven, wavy surface forms. In extreme cases, the casting may "boil away" completely or partially. Temperatures above 100 °C then occur.
Layer thicknesses of up to 5 cm can be cast for small volumes up to about 500 ml, and layers of 1-2 cm for large volumes up to about 30 liters.
Large molded parts ("rivertables" etc.) with layer thicknesses of more than 20 mm should be cast in two or more operations/layers one after the other, at intervals of about 12 hours.
At temperatures above 25 °C, we strongly advise against casting thicker layers and/or larger volumes in one operation.
Please order Epoxy Resin L and EP Casting Resin "water clear"/"ocean blue" separately.
